I don't know how it works exactly. But what it does is...shred the essence of whatever's put into it. Angels have a lot of essence as these things are measured so the process takes quite a while. I wasn't even all the way dead when I came to Court, though I was as good as since the process had already been started on me.
As for what it feels like, it hurts. I can't...describe it in words.
