Personality/Background:
Barakiel is a cynical and apathetic soul. His primary drive in life is pleasure; while there isn't much he enjoys, he clings to those things fiercely. He views his life as sad and pathetic and just wants to wring what happiness out of it that he can. Though he'd been resigned to being a tool, he has been forced to confront the fact that he doesn't want to die as such and may even actively wish to live. But he isn't sure what to do about that and this newfound confusion gnaws at him.
Still, Barakiel has had millennia of bitterness and resignation and a few good friends can't change that. He has no interest in the cosmic war between Heaven and Hell and no feeling for the humans who are continually screwed over by it. Not that he hates humans or anything, he just doesn't care about their little transient lives. Barakiel prefers to avoid conflict in all things, trying to stay as uninvolved with everything as possible. He hates having attachments yet has somehow found that he enjoys having friends. Even so, he is a loyal and steadfast companion, and honors his obligations (especially if they're entered into willingly).
In interactions with others, Barakiel comes across as a laid back, low-key sort, unperturbed by nearly anything and everything. He's secretive in an unsubtle way and hates sharing details about his past. He's uncomfortable around other angels, demons, gods, or beings with comparable power.

- Lucifer rebels, Lucifer's army is cast down to hell, tense war/detente between Heaven and Hell ensues. Heaven meanwhile became uptight and more about conformity and order.
- Barakiel a hotheaded shounen sort of angel who believes Heaven = Good, but who has no problem with bending rules to do his job.
- Eventually he was deemed too chaotic and is forced to become a sort of secret agent doing dirty work for better, purer angels.
- Shounen-ness and betrayal are worn away into cynicism, apathy, and resignation as he gains a more nuanced view of the war.
- Then one of his superiors fucks up and uses Barakiel as a scapegoat. He's quickly railroaded into execution and spends a few centuries dying.
- But suddenly, Court, where Barakiel gets attached to mortals against his inclination and realizes that maybe he doesn't want to just die after all.
