Prompt 2: I Can't Believe It's Not Thusia

[Your character has died! And then . . . woken up in some cold stone room full of weird shrines??? Plus some strange dude is sitting next to you, puffing lightly on a cigarette.]

Oh, you're awake? Then welcome back to the land of the living. Or to the land of the re-living. Still not sure how the terminology works there.

[she blinks a few times, her usual expression gone for a moment - before she snorts, almost a laugh]

You're looking at it way too seriously.

In the beginning, when humans learned that we may exist, they told stories. And those stories spread - and their belief in us is what gave us our power. But it's also what formed the first rules we had to follow, aside from what the gods put in place.

[she spreads her hands with a shrug] In other words, it's just an old way of referring to the rules.

I'm assuming it doesn't work the same way for you?

We're all kind of . . . willed into existence . . . as far as anyone can tell. So kind of similar . . . though humans aren't involved in the process, of course.

Ah . . . by your god? Or something else?

Yeah, He's the one.

[you can practically hear the capital]

Heeeh . . . [it's a quiet hum, but interested]

We don't really deal with him or your kind often. There's never really a need to, around here.

It's just as well. No need to drag the uninvolved into our little spats.

Well. [she shrugs a shoulder] It isn't as though he doesn't have people here who worship him.

That never seemed to bother Him, from what I recall...

Good point, good point. If there were any other gods where I was, I'd assume they were clever enough to stay out of the whole thing.

Mm, something like that. They keep to their own territories, for the most part.

Oh yeah? Sounds like a good system.

It's been working for thousands of years, so I would hope it's at least good.

If it's worked that long that's usually a pretty good sign that it is.

Usually. They get on fairly well, all things considered.

Mm, really. Most of the gods get along. If they didn't, the world probably wouldn't exist.

Mm. It helps that many of them are related.

It's like . . . [she frowns for a moment, thoughtful] The Roman God Morpheus could be considered my uncle. And the Spider Woman, Asibikaashi, from Native American folklore could be considered a distant cousin. To put it in human terms.

Morpheus and I share a realm, so we're "related".
