Prompt 2: I Can't Believe It's Not Thusia

[Your character has died! And then . . . woken up in some cold stone room full of weird shrines??? Plus some strange dude is sitting next to you, puffing lightly on a cigarette.]

Oh, you're awake? Then welcome back to the land of the living. Or to the land of the re-living. Still not sure how the terminology works there.

[putting a cigarette in his mouth and snapping his fingers near the end, creating a spark that lights it]

I've never really been the "live among" type . . .

[instead of elaborating, though, she continues] And my domain is their dreams. So either way, I didn't have a choice.

Dreams, huh? Sounds pretty interesting.

For the most part, but I don't pay them much attention before I eat them, anymore.

It's no different from those who use dreamcatchers in the west.

People don't want to remember their bad dreams or their nightmares - so they ask me to devour it.

[a hand comes up to fiddle with the strap of her bookbag]

It isn't courtesy, it's just how my story works.

[she glances up at him, head tilted] Just like your kind have stories that you can't go against . . . at least, the ones I know of.

I don't know about stories, exactly, but there are always rules that can't be broken.

Mm. It's basically the same thing.

This is getting too philosophical for me . . .

How so?

[jarredforlife]

A story implies a writer, right? And also a reader. And then you get into questions of who is the cosmic writer and reader and maybe quantum physics too and it's all just too much bother.

[dreamvour]

[she blinks a few times, her usual expression gone for a moment - before she snorts, almost a laugh]

You're looking at it way too seriously.

In the beginning, when humans learned that we may exist, they told stories. And those stories spread - and their belief in us is what gave us our power. But it's also what formed the first rules we had to follow, aside from what the gods put in place.

[she spreads her hands with a shrug] In other words, it's just an old way of referring to the rules.

Oh, well, that makes a lot more sense.

I'm assuming it doesn't work the same way for you?

[jarredforlife]

We're all kind of . . . willed into existence . . . as far as anyone can tell. So kind of similar . . . though humans aren't involved in the process, of course.

[dreamvour]

Ah . . . by your god? Or something else?

Yeah, He's the one.
